About our emergency service provider
Vets Now provide dedicated emergency and ongoing care for our patients when we are closed, and are the veterinary equivalent of an accident and emergency service.
Their vets and vet nurses have been specially trained to deal with pet emergencies, and work dedicated out of hours shifts, meaning they will be available to support you and your pet when you need them.

If you are worried about your pet or would just like some advice, please don’t hesitate to call them.

Please note: Vets Now is a separate company. Therefore, any financial, clinical and customer care queries related to the service provided by them should be directed to Vets Now.
If your query is insurance related, their central insurance team can deal with your out of hours insurance claims.
Out of hours procedure
Handover of patients already being treated at one of the Nene Vets sites.
You will need to collect your pet and transfer them to Vets Now.

Our veterinary surgeon will have already spoken with the duty veterinary surgeon at Vets Now to inform them of your pet's requirements.
The duty veterinary surgeon at Vets Now will then perform a full clinical assessment to ensure nothing has changed, and start to form an overnight treatment and care plan.

The duty vet at Vets Now will then call you (they will endeavour to call you at the earliest convenience, but as an emergency service there may be times when they need to prioritise patient care) to discuss the options for treatment and any costs with you.
You will then be transferred to the Vets Now reception team to discuss payments or deposits, insurance and any paperwork for completion.

Your pet will be comfortably settled in a bed and any treatments and investigations will be carried out, as well as ongoing monitoring and observations.

Your pet will be cared for by the Vets Now team throughout the night, and you will be made aware of any changes to your pet's status by telephone.
Early in the morning, the duty veterinary surgeon from Vets Now will call you to update you on how your pet has been overnight.

Vets Now will then arrange for any final payments to be taken and check any paperwork that is required for your claim.
You will need to collect your pet from Vets Now before 8am, and transfer them back to us if ongoing care is still required.

The duty vet will handover to our on-site veterinary surgeon, either by telephone or in person, and a full written history will be sent to us.
We will then continue any daytime care necessary, ensuring that you are updated, as required.
